Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the difficulties of solving word mathematical problems among secondary school students in Gaza governorates as perceived by their teachers.

The researcher used the descriptive analytical approach.

He designed and used a five - domain questionnaire.

The domains are: difficulties of understanding the word problem; difficulties of translating the word problem; difficulties of planning to solve word problems; difficulties of executing solving word problems; difficulties of judging solving word problems.

Every domain covered several items each of which represented a difficulty facing the learner in solving word mathematical problems.

The questionnaire included (30) items.

The findings revealed that there were difficulties in the five domains.

The most common difficulties were connected with judging solution of word problems and executing the solution of word problems.

The study recommended the continual diagnosis of difficulties of solving word problems and connecting those included in the textbook with the students' lives.

Besides, the study recommended teachers to adopt instructional strategies and techniques that would contribute in coping with these difficulties
