Abstract EN

This study aims at investigating the effect of the deductive method represented in the use of hilda taba method, as opposed to the traditional method, to improve the performance of the students in general science.

The sample of the experimental groups of the study consists of (88) female and male students of the fifth grade at the state-run Universities in the city of al-Balqa-Salt.

The study was conducted in the first semester of 2012-2013.

Husni Fariz boys and Yafa schools for girls were chosen.

The students were divided, according to their results in the fourth grade, into two groups of (44) students each.

One group was investigated in the traditional method.

Another experimental group of (44) students was investigated by the hilda taba method.

The number of items were (40) distributed on the whole curriculum and its activities, which were formed according to Hilda Taba method.

The study demonstrates that there are significant differences in favor of the experimental group that followed the Hilda Taba method in teaching general science for the fifth graders.

Regarding gender, there was no difference between the two sexes in the experimental groups, which goes in harmony with the previous studies which took gender into consideration.

In the light of this study, the researchers recommended that hilda taba method should be used in teaching general science for the fifth graders and that teachers should be trained to use it.
