Abstract EN

This paper discusses the role of the so-called sexual revolution in the progress or decay of any civilization from the viewpoint of the Russian - born American social theorist, Pitirim Sorokin.

More precisely, this paper explores the important role played by the sexual revolution in giving birth to what Sorokin calls 'Sensate Culture', which is an alarming sign of the decay of the Western civilizations.

An investigation that is done with such a broad scope examining all civilizations in addition to its various components; political, economical, social, cultural and artistic; an investigation using a method similar to that used by philosophers when studying history, is an inquiry that aims to offer a comprehensive theory that will provide "the key to history", following an expres- Sion of Karl Marx: if the Western civilization does not recover and change its course which is affected by the sexual revolution, then it could face dangerous challenges that might lead to its eventual decay.

This paper aims to scrutinize Sorokin's preoccupation with this subject, which is the concern of his late writings, in order to draw attention to this philosophical aspect which is left unnoticed by many critics.
