Abstract EN

This paper is a cultural historical and architectural documentary study of one of the Mamluk defunct commercial establishment which was part of the huge architectural complex built by Sultan Al-Ashraf Abu al-Nasr Qaitbey in Madinah in 886-888h / 1481-1483 AD.

This complex had an obvious role in the evolution of the civic features on the area around the Prophet's mosque as well as the city of Madinah during the Mamluk Jerxi era which is reflected on the evolution of social, cultural, and economic life of the city during that period.

The architectural complex consists of a school, abode (rebat), and the caravanserai.

The study focuses on the recent unit (wakalah) and its annexes (caravansarai) through what has been stated in historical resources, as well as its precise description in the document of Sultan Qaitbey endowment )waqf(with an attempt to visualize its design and annexed units.
