Abstract EN

Abstract The present study is set to investigate the vocabulary learning strategies used by Iraqi EFL learners and how these strategies are related to their vocabulary size.

Two instruments have been manipulated; Schmitt's (1997) vocabulary learning strategies scale and Nation's (1990) vocabulary level test.

The results reveal that the Iraqi EFL learners are unaware of the mechanisms they are supposed to adopt in learning vocabulary.

Consequently, the participants' vocabulary size is rather limited and has no relation with the strategies they reported using.
