During the period 1953 – 1954 east Germany was under bad economic conditions due to the government mismanagement practices and its association with the former soviet union and the unwillingness of the soviet to improve the economic conditions there at that time.
After the situation had aggravated because of the sever food shortage.
The united states initiated food program to help the people of east Germany , the soviet union objected this program : however the Americans worked on it through the government of west Germany by delivering food packages across the borders of the two German states.
The aforementioned program had reduced the severity of food shortage experienced by the people of east Germany .
