Because mission statement is important in directing the university managerial body and to achieve the desired objectives and outcomes, the aim of this study is to study the quality of mission statement formulation in the universities of the Arab world according to the extent to which the four structural components of the mission statement (purpose - the client - activities - methods) are met.

The mission statements were reviewed for all the universities of the Arab world, which met the selection criteria (269 universities).

The results of the study showed that 187 Arab universities (69.5%) had a mission statement and that the components of the mission statement (purpose, client, activities and methods) were mentioned in the following percentages: 86.1%, 79.1%, 94.2% and 67.4%, respectively.

The results also showed that the mean and the standard deviation of the percentage of fulfilling the four components of the mission statement is 81.8 ± 22.5 in the universities of the Arab world.

The study concluded that the universities of the Arab world have initial experience in the quality of the mission statement.

The mission statement showed that the main purpose of the universities of the Arab world is to prepare the graduates and that the main client is the students and that the most important activity is the educational service and that providing an effective learning environment that is stimulating learning and creativity is the most common method.
