field survey was conducted to determine weed species and distribution in some of wheat fields in the Al-Hirah district in the province of Najaf.
The most abundant and distributed weeds in the wheat fields were Raphanu sraphanistrum L.
,Melilotus indicus, Medicago hispida, Lolium rigidium Gaudin ,Lolium temulentum L.
,Salybium marianum L., Phragmites communis Trin and Avena fatua .The R.
raphanistrum L.
had the most spreading weed with percentage of 18.2% followed by Melilo tusindicus (6.250%) while the lowest percentage was in S .marianum ( 0.005%).
The average of total area that occupied with weeds was about 33% in wheat fields tested.
