Abstract EN

The objective of standardization is to provide reference documents with solutions to technical and commercial problems relating to the products, goods and services which arise repeatedly in the relationsbetween technical, social, scientific and economic partners; so standardization plays a considerable andgrowing role in determining the characteristics of products and services that are placed on the market.

Originally, standardization was primarily intended to ensure compatibility of products.

of course thisaim has not disappeared; but it integrates since the middle of the century, into a broader goal: standardization seeks to define products and services that meet the expectations of users and do notpresent a danger to human health or safety.

Since the 1980s, the horizon has further expanded, so the protection of the environment is part of the goals of standardization.
