Abstract EN

The resistance of Sheikh Bouziane in the Zaatcha Oasis in the North Zab region in 1849 was an excellent example of bravery and sacrifice for the homeland.

Its resistance showed in the world history the importance of the gift which allows people to live in dignity, freedom, and rejection of humiliation.

Based on documents from the military archives of the Van Saint-Pierre Palace and other military archives of the Overseas Archives Center of the French city of Aix-en-Provence, on the one hand, I sought through this article to reveal the level reached by the Algerian resistance.

It is a model among so many others of bravery, firmness, and the defense of the homeland till the last breath of every Algerian.

And on the other hand, I envisioned showing the degree of the colonial hatred and resentment against the Algerian resistance’s symbols in the desert.

And thanks to that, one can find a logical and objective justification for the transfer of the skull of Sheikh Bouziane to France, where it is today in one of their museums.
