Abstract EN

In this article we try, two actors in the sociology of language, Antoine Meillet and William Labov, where we discussed the nature of the relationship between them and their role in the formation and constitution of this science, following two distinct current interest in the relationship between language and linguistic or social variables, the first says that language is a social institution and insists on the importance of social reaction in language, and the second says that it belongs to a category that does not deny effect of the variable in the language, but this reduces its importance Therefore, we raised the question: What is the contribution of each of them in the establishment of sociology of language ?.
