Abstract EN

The economic reality in the global economy shows that the policy of energy prices subsidy has many negative costs, especially for the MENA countries which have the highest share in the global energy subsidy, where it represents a main pillar of their economic policies as a main alternative for their social security policies.On this basis, it’s necessary for the MENA countries to go about the reform process of this subsidy because of its positive effects on the future of energy security and long run growth opportunities.

In order to avoid any adverse effects of the reform process that faces many barriers and difficulties, the best period to apply the reform process is the period in which the economy is on a comfortable public finance situation, so as to ensure a large margin to move and take some compensatory measures
