The presidents of States and Governments in Africa endorsed the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) initiative to bring Africa out of underdevelopment and to achieve growth and prosperity for the peoples of the continent.
NEPAD has been severely criticized by its opponents as a way of perpetuating dependence on the West.
This has been demonstrated by the neo-liberal ideology's control over the concepts of this initiative, and so many voices have risen to bring it down.

Les chefs d'Etats et de gouvernements africains ont adopté le nouveau partenariat pour le développement de l'Afrique «NEPAD » afin sortir le continent du sous-développement, et pour réaliser la croissance et la prospérité des peuples du continent.
Les objectifs de cette initiative et les mécanismes de sa réussite ainsi que les moyens de sa mise en œuvre sont identifiés par avance.
Le NEPAD a fait face à de vives critiques par ses opposants en le considérant comme un moyen de perpétuer la dépendance envers l'occident, conséquence directe de la domination de l’idéologie new libérale sur les concepts et contours de cette initiative.
