Abstract EN

Autism is a comprehensive developmental disorder that adversely affect many aspects of growth with autistic children; and perhaps the most prominent effects of this disorder is communication skills disorder, which appears in the absence of visual, non-verbal, and verbal communication skills as well as social communication.

The researcher believes that communication skills are the skills required to achieve effective communication with others through eye contact, use of gestures, signals, expressing feelings, sharing social events in addition to language proficiency and accepting the opinions of others.

Because of the urgent need for a scale to define deficiencies in communication skills with autistic children, the researcher has prepared a scale for communication skills designed for autistic children, which consists of 52 sentences divided into 13 sentences for visual communication, 13 sentences for non-verbal communication, 13 sentences for verbal communication and 13 sentences for social communication, so as to determine the percentage of deficiencies in communication skills with autistic children.

The researcher has been taken into account the scientific basis in preparing the scale by reviewing tools, tests, scales, theoretical heritage and previous Arab and foreign studies addressing communication skills.

The researcher used the gathered data in the form of items and sentences so that each group of sentences would represent one dimension of communication skills.

The researcher ascertains the reliability of the scale by displaying its (10) items to professors and specialists in the fields of psychology and special needs in order to express their opinion about the clarity of the sentences which measure communication skills with autistic children and the percentage of the face validity was 98%.

The validity of communication skills scale is calculated through Test re Test.

The scale is applied to a group of (30) autistic children (males and females) with interval of (15) days.

The correlation coefficient is significant at the level of (0.01) which indicates high reliability coefficient.
