This article aims to assess the contribution of insurance activity in the Algerian economic growth during the period 2005-2014.
It also attempts to measure the effect of the increase in the volume of collected premiums and their share in the composition of the gross domestic product based on penetration rate and density ratio.
The research found that the relative importance of the insurance sector in the Algerian economy didn't exceed 1%, as well as individuals' spending on insurance protection is low as one of the indicators that proves the lack of insurance culture.
