Abstract EN

The study was conducted in the second settlement zone of the governorate of Hama during the agricultural season (2011-2012), on the basis of primary data for simple random sample consisted of (200) farmers, in order to measure the impact of the change in production costs on the state of barley cultivation, by comparing productivity indicators for the study season with their counterparts in the (2008) season as a base period.

Results showed that the profitability of rained barley was decreased, in parallel with the rise in production costs, The cost of chemical fertilizers was the most effective factor contributing 33% of the total production costs, while the cost of tillage formed 24%.

However, the rise in costs productivity was accompanied with a decrease in the level of use of quantitative and qualitative production inputs.

In another way, the positive climate factors contributed during 2011 season compared with2008- season in reducing the impact of the costs change on productivity changes, Therefore, there was no significant change in productivity.

In terms of profitability, High barley prices led to an increase in the value of the yield by (500.15) SP/Durum, but this increase was unable to cover the cost increase.

The net profit for this crop decreased with an average of 15.6.36 S.P/Dunum, and thus the changes in cost considered the main reason to decrease the profitability
