Abstract EN

Intellectual security during the Crusades in the Levant and Egypt, covered by this research, does not stand for intellectual dominance which means the repression of the freedom of opinion, the confscation of ideas and the seizure of minds.

It rather means a kind of intellectual enclosure that is built around frm beliefs and Islamic legislations established in the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah to face Mystic Ismailism, the Catholic crusade, and deviant Sufsm.

This should not be understood as a restriction of the mind, but rather as a guarantee of the unity of faith, the safety of thought, the consolidation of authority, and the confrmation of Islamic unity despite geographical fragmentation and political division.

Scholars of Islam and jurisprudence have excelled in this role, and so have schools, libraries and various cultural institutions in the community
