Abstract EN

This study aimed to determine the nature of the relationship between public and private investment in Jordan during the period 1976-2014 through the net direct and indirect effect between them.

To this end, the study used an econometrics model comprising simultaneous equations.

The model was evaluated through the use of the two-phase least square framework.

The evaluation results showed that the direct relationship between public and private investments is a crowding-out one, while the indirect relationship is a crowding-in relation.

Thus, the fnal relationship can be described as a crowding-in relation through the net direct and indirect relationship between public and private investment, which is found to be positive and equal to 1.14.

The study recommended the following: the government needs to increase its economic involvement by boosting its investments.

It needs to create an investment fund to attract surplus liquidity from local banks, Arab sovereign funds, various private sector institutions, as well as from individuals, so as to fnance national development projects that would beneft all shareholders
