Abstract EN

The aim of this study was to investigate the most important psychological challenges facing the elderly in Muscat and to identify the effect of the gender variable on their attitudes toward the psychological diffculties they face.

This is added to the identifcation of the relative importance of some variables in explaining the difference in attitudes.

The study was carried out on a sample of 2332 male and female elderly in Muscat.

A sample social survey methodology was employed and a questionnaire was used as a data collection tool.

The study relied on the descriptive analytical approach as it is suitable for studying questions and describing the problem of the study comprehensively.

Results showed that the most important psychological challenge was thinking of suicide.

It was also shown that men suffer more than women from psychological challenges.

Results also revealed that the number of children variable is the most independent variable, which explains the obvious difference in the elderly attitudes towards the psychological challenges they face.
