Abstract EN

Several countries, especially the major ones; are seeking to achieve their energy security, depending on the content of this concept from state to state, and in this context, many great powers have started seeking alternative sources of energy, like the so-called unconventional resources, such as tight oil and shale gas as alternatives to conventional ones, and new additional sources of energy with the renewable energy.

However, one of the most prominent obstacles that faced several states seeking to exploit tight oil and shale gas for economic considerations, is the environmental challenges of this exploitation.

This study seeks to identify this controversy between the tendency to the exploitation of unconventional resources for economic reasons, and the conservative trend opposing the exploitation of tight oil and shale gas.

The study is an attempt to examine the case of United States of America as the largest producer of unconventional resources in the world.
