Perhaps it is stating the obvious to say that there is a kind of clash between the rural and the urban and that contemporary and historical literature has been witness to such conflict.

However, this study refers to a different kind of clash, caused by the entry of the authoritarianism represented by the ruling Baath Party of Syria.

This played a huge role in inflaming the urban-rural conflict as it pitted one against the other, driving these neighbours to explicit social violence.

This study demonstrates the manifestations of this urban-rural clash, not as two neighbours, but as two cultural contexts that move the narrative, and identify the movement of characters and its course, especially in the Syrian novels that emerged after the onset of the Syrian revolution in 2011.
