Abstract EN

The first objectif of the present study is to reveal the relationship between the five big factors of personality (neuroticism، extraversion، openness، goodness and vigilant conscience) and the emotional intelligence.

the second is the determination of the differences in emotional intelligence about university students with sex variable.

the study sample consisted of 120 students.

to achieve this study two tests were applied، the first concerns the five big factors describing the personality، elaborated by costa and mccare، 1992.

the second test concerns the emotional intelligence elaborated by Suhad Omar Yousef Awad، 2003.

the following conclusions were reached : - there is a negative relationship between neuroticism and emotional intelligence in the sample studied.

- there is a relationship between extraversion and emotional intelligence in the sample studied.

- there is no correlation between openness to experience and emotional intelligence in the sample studied.

- there is no relationship between goodness and emotional intelligence in the sample studied.

- there is a relationship between vigilant conscience and emotional intelligence in the sample studied.

- no statistically significant differences in emotional intelligence related to the variable sex among in the sample studied.
