Abstract EN

The current study aimed at finding the role for the public Jordanian universities in the promotion of liberal education among their students in light of social change based on the ideas of " Paulo Freire ".The study sample consisted of all the students of public universities (University of Jordan,Yarmouk University and Mutah University).The study population consisted of (91019) students during the academic year 2014-2015.

The study sample was a Random Proportionate Stratified Sample selected from the students of the three universities.

The study sample consisted of (384) male and female students.

The researcher has applied the descriptive approach, and also has developed a tool to identify the role for the public Jordanian universities in the promotion of liberal education among their students in light of social change based on the ideas of " Paulo Freire " from the students’ point of view with reference to the theoretical literature and some relative studies.

The study tool consisted of (62) items and was verified regarding its reliability and validity having submitted to ten qualified and experienced experts in educational and administrative fields in some universities.

The validity of the study tools was verified using test - retest approach and Cronbach alpha.

The questions of the current study were answered using the appropriate statistical methodologies.

The results of the current study showed the following: -The status of the role for the public Jordanian universities in the promotion of liberal education among their students in light of social change based on the ideas of " Paulo Freire " from the point of view of the students was average, where the field “the role of evaluation and marks system” has ranked first followed by the field “ the role of students’ activities”, and “university admission” has ranked third , while the field “the role of the faculty member” has ranked last.
