Abstract EN

In this paper, we will present and discuss the question of the hjelmslevian dichotomies: expression side / content side, and form / substance, as they are the four components of sign, which is, in the glossematic thesis and its special concept apparatus, conceived on the base of the semiotic function.

This four components concept is a fundamental to for language analysis and description, and for linguistics construction.

This will put our discussion in the field of linguistics and semiotics epistemology, and let us show that the hjelmslevian concepts couldn’t be submitted to critics or evaluation according to their applicability.

The formal and systematic nature of the glossematics would make us accept these concepts coherence with the whole concept apparatus.

Even though, we will explore some of Hjelmslev linguistic examples, and apply his concepts on an iconic corpus, in order to show that the abstract and formal nature of the glossematics does not prevent the usage on any corpus of language nature.
