Abstract EN

The study aimed to identify the role played by social institutions، especially family and school، in protecting youth in the united arab emirates from crime.

using the scientific method، the study evaluated a sample of 339 male and female in the age range between 18-35 years in the emirates of dubai، sharjah and ajman.

a questionnaire was used to measure the extent of awareness of these young people of the nature and importance of social institutions; an analysis of the results reveals learnings that may be extrapolated as indicative of the broader population.

the validity of the questionnaire was tested by several arbitrators.

the major findings of the study are presented according to their weighted average means as the following: (1) 99.6% found that school social workers and psychologists were integral to helping youth deal with social and psychological problems that lead to committing crimes، with a weighted average of 4.3; (2) 96.3% found the provision of ways and methods to solving problems faced by youth as more important than other factors، with a weighted average of 4.3; (3) 96.4% found obstacles، mainly poor education، prohibit the activation of family and school in the prevention of crime; (4) 99.4% (with slight variation between genders) found the role of the school crucial، in reducing criminal behavior، by educating students about the rules of conduct and attendance، with a weighted average of 4.2; and (5) 100% indicated family stability is important for reducing the involvement of youth in crime، with a weighted average of 4.1.
