Abstract EN

The study aimed to identifying the stigmatizing indicators of patients with HCV, by assessing the level of awareness and knowledge of patients about the disease ,and the implications of stigmatization by visualizing the patient's self-image, The researcher used interviews with (23) patients,at Liver Center of Damanhour Teaching Hospital, Behira Governorate, Egypt.

The results of the study showed that the Most of the discoveries came through coincidence (82%), The results also showed that negatively impact of disease on social relations, especially in females (34%) , almost (65%) of the study cases preferred to hide their disease , Either for fear of negative attitude towards them,or unexpected reactions ,or hope to fully recover using the new treatment.

And for experiences of rejection and discrimination, have appeared in several pictures, Whether through the rejection ,employment opportunities outside the country ,or unequal provision of medical services,or rejection marriage, This is what drives almost (47%) of the cases to hide their infected with HCV virus on doctors fear of rejection of treatment, As for the impact of the infection of HCV on the image of the self in the patient, has emerged in many forms in (52%) of the cases, such as exemption from some roles, or feeling the loss of status and importance, or feeling anxious fear And consider themselves as a source of danger to the others ,or fear from the disease itself, so the experience of diagnosis of chronic and contagious disease is an experience of self-staining and change the image of the patient and his identity even for a period of time.
