Abstract EN

This study targets introduction of esthetic formulations for producing a decorative panel in the square Koufie calligraphy via application of computer programs as well as employment of individual Koufie fonts to generate estheticdecorative units.

The research is further aimed at recruiting the potentials of the two programs (Corel Draw & Adobe Photoshop).

The study has adopted the case-study approach that is based on consideration of outstanding specific cases.

This process takes place through collection of information and detailed data on the phenomenon of the current situation and the previous one and taking note of the factors that affect it.

Observation has been used as a tool for describing the samples under study and that amounted to four samples, represented in Arabic fonts and expressions that have been selected deliberately in order to subject them to formations and technical and empirical experimentations in the square Koufie calligraphy due to their viability for technical patterning and their flexibility via utilization of computer programs.

The most outstanding results of the study indicate the presence of a positive relationship between utilization of computer programs and introduction of an esthetic formulation for the decorative calligraphic panel.

In other words, this is a relationship between the artist and the machine as well as the artist’s vision of viable alternatives and his ability to muster the different forms of innovation and creativity and to choose the best end results.

The study has also concluded that utilization of computers as a technical tool in design opens up opportunities for innovation as well as saves both time and effort and mitigates errors.

However, this process should not be carried out in a manner that annuls the creative aspect of the manual design process.

The study also arrived at the conclusion that the more knowledge the designer acquires regarding the design, tools, capabilities and limitations of the computer design the more potentials and capacities he will have for creativity and innovation.

In conclusion, the study recommended concern with Arabic calligraphy and the different computer applications related to the same.

It also underlined the need for students and instructors alike to acquire the computer operation culture and to utilize computers as an educational tool in artistic and technical works in general and in Arabic calligraphy and decorations in particular in view of the huge and unlimited potentials of computers.
