Abstract EN

It goes without saying that technological development in the educational field is not a luxury or just a change in shape or appearance; in fact, it is an inevitable response and a necessary interaction with the revolution of information due to the deep changes taking place in the contemporary world at all levels.

Given the prominent role of libraries, managing the vast amount of information and documentation requires a radical change, therefore, the so called "digitization" project is considered one of the most important projects in the present time.

As the National Library of Algeria is the main and central reference of the national intellectual production printed in all fields and disciplines of knowledge, this paper aims to shed light on the Algerian experience in digitizing the libraries to determine the extent of the application of digitization in the Algerian libraries.

It also attempts to uncover the real impediments associated with digitization that limit its application.
