Abstract EN

The syntax combined with other sciences such as Logic and Philosophy and applying a variety of analogies, interpretations, understandings and paraphrases made some people to think about the idea of getting rid of these complex issues and trying to simplify and re-edify them.

Ibn Maza Qurtubi was one the first people who criticized the old syntax in his book “al-Rad ala al-Nohat”.

This article, based on a review on Shoghi Zyf’s “Tajdid al-nahw” and Ibrahim Mostafa’s “Ehya al-nahw” and a comparison between them using a descriptive or an analytical approach, is trying to show how successful they were in implementing their method.

We have found that Shoghi Zyf was only managed to offer a new category of the content, merged, deleted and transferred some issues.

His statements were sometimes contradictory and he failed to implement his method.

Mustafa Ibrahim’s achievements could be seen in his theoretical and systematic thoughts.

He had the courage to criticize the old-style syntax but he was generally influenced by the ideas of Ibn Maza and not successful in many of his own ideas.
