Abstract EN

The main objective of this study is to identify the open source software used in the university libraries of Khartoum State and its different types which are easy to use by the library and information specialists.

It also aims at clarifying the most important software available in Arab libraries and information centers, their relevance, An integrated system of software and various applications available on the Internet.

In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used analytical documentary method, data collection through published literature, and personal interview.

The study population consists of a random sample of the governmental and private universities libraries in the state of Khartoum, 8university libraries.

The field study was limited to the following libraries: University of Khartoum, Omdurman University Islamic University, Al-Nileen University, Sudan University of Science and Technology, National Rabat, Al-Ahfad for Girls, International Africa, University of Science and Technology.

The study found several results, the most important of which is that open source software has a high ability to build digital content in university libraries, and the use of university libraries for these sources strengthens their role in providing and providing information.

The study made several recommendations, most notably the awareness of the role and importance of open source systems and their facilities in the management of digital content and the removal of obstacles and problems in the employment of information technology and the use of open source systems in university libraries
