العنف القائم على أساس الجنس ضد النساء : دراسة اجتماعية لعينة مختارة من الناجيات من أعمال العنف في العراق

Abstract EN

This study is aimed to shed some light on the sexual gender based violence (SGBV) that women living in areas of vast majority of Arab Sunni population were exposed to during a period of so-called «cities liberation» from Islamic State (ISIS).

They lived in provinces of Mosul, Anbar, Babylon, Diala, Kerkuk and Salah Aldeen.

It is noted that the majority of the population in these areas were subjected to hard conditions under the Islamic State and therefore they all suffered, tremendously.

However, they reached their limits by experiencing the sexual gender based violence that included torture, abduction, enslavement, systematic rape along with ethnic cleansing by way of killing men and children and causing handicap for women.

The study employed the expressive writing technique developed by Campbell & Jensen (2016; 2018) in collecting survivors’ stories.

The study concluded by introducing (28) cases in which survivors narrated their experiences.

It was found that the majority of the (100) survivors who were studied here were unemployed, married, and young.

They were characterized by a low level of educational attainment and have a few children for they lead young families.

It was noted also that the majority of these survivors refrained from informing authorities about their hardship because of fear and expectation of insult and blaming.
