Abstract EN

The concept of possible self is the attending to the future which is rooted in students' experiences at present and past time.

Both of negative and positive possible self-reflect the individual image of himself.

This image is influenced by the possible self, the strength of education, the social, economic, environmental and family level and conditions, and the success and fail interpersonal experiences.

The decreasing of the individual possible self leads to many problems in psychological adjustment and reflects negatively on his behavior and physical health.

Furthermore, the individual faces psychological disorders, anxiety, depression and conflict.

Individuals with low possible- self suffer from the others interference in their affairs, at the same time, they hesitate in facing the others.

The importance of the study is represented in its handling this variable (possible self).

Furthermore, the study sample (distinguished students) adds extra importance to the study because of the importance of the sample itself in the society.

The study aims at finding out: 1.

The possible self of the study sample.

2.

The possible self of the study sample according to the gander (male, female).

3.

The possible self of the study sample according to the parental academic level (primary-secondary-deplume- - higher studies).

The researcher depend on the literature of (Markus,1986) for constructing the scale of possible self .

The researcher applies the item analysis of the one scale purposive sample of (400) distinguished students.

The scale of the possible – self construct validity is Random sample verified by the internal consistent indicator.

The reliability values of the possible - self scales are (0,85) and (0,86).

The finale scales are applied on a sample of (850) male and female students, selected from the distinguished schools at Baghdad city.

The results show that: 1.

The distinguished students have high level of the possible self.

2.

There are statistically significant differences in the sample possible-self according to gander on favor of female students.

3.

There are no statistically significant differences in the sample possible-self according to the parental academic level.

Accordingly, several recommendation and suggestions are set forwards.
