The purpose of this article is to identify the main determinants of the real exchange rate in Algeria covering the period from 1970 to 2016.
For this purpose, we used the techniques of cointegration to look for a long-term relationship between the exchange rate and the fundamentals of the Algerian economy.
Referring to the empirical analysis, our results show that investment, development of the banking system and trade openness are very important to explain Algeria's real exchange rate.
