Fuel prices in Algeria are among the lowest in the world.
In this article we will shed light on the fuel pricing system in Algeria and the different distortive effects of the subsidy policy.
The latter is at the origin of several perverse effects on the Algerian economy, such as: domestic overconsumption, the increase in the bill of imports, the explosion of the automobile fleet, the deployment of illegal traffic in fuels, saturation urban road networks, the increase in the number of accidents and the pollution of the environment.
To conclude, we propose some successful international experiences in subsidy reform that are relevant examples that can enhance equity and minimize the consequences of rising fuel prices in Algeria.

Les prix des carburants en Algérie sont parmi les moins élevés au monde.
Dans cet article nous allons mettre la lumière sur le système de fixation des prix des carburants en Algérie et les différents effets distorsifs de la politique de subvention.
Cette dernière est à l’origine de plusieurs effets pervers sur l’économie algérienne, tels que : la surconsommation domestique, l’alourdissement de la facture des importations, l’explosion du parc automobile, le déploiement du trafic illicite des carburants, la saturation des réseaux routiers urbains, l’accroissement du nombre d’accidents et la pollution de l’environnement.
Pour conclure nous proposons quelques expériences internationales réussies en matière de réforme de subventions et qui constituent des exemples pertinents pouvant renforcer l’équité et minimiser les conséquences de la hausse des prix des carburants en Algérie.
