Abstract EN

This study focuses on a natural phenomenon : The earthquake, which is a tectonic movement of the earth's crust, which causes extensive destruction and great hatred among the people.

Since Algeria is located in a region of refractive refractories, close to the European continent, it has been subjected to earthquakes across different historical times .

Therefore, we have considered the earthquake of the city of Chlef as a model.

The ground shook on September 09,1954, with a violent vibration of 12 seconds.

The retreat was as far back as 11/09/1954, where the number of after shocks was estimated to be 70, which was felt by the neighboring cities of Oran, Mascara, Relizane, Saida, and even Ibiza Island in Spain.

The houses collapsed and the city buildings were destroyed by 90% due to the intensity of the earthquake.

In our study we used two colonial newspapers, the first is "Oran Républicain", which was founded by the Republicans in 1935, and is considered a local newspaper was issued from the city of Oran, and most of her articles concern the lives of Algerian Muslims, then its director is Gabriel Esquer.

It ceased publication in 1960.

The second is" Echo du Soir", it is a periodical that began in 1949 in Oran, whose director was Robert Laffon (1878-1964), which ceased publication in 1961.

We also used an official administrative publication containing resolutions and statistics showing the material and human losses resulting from the earthquake, and the most material resources that were used to rebuild the city and its environs after its buildings were demolished and destroyed.
