The polemic that is evoked in terms of confrontation and conflict between the critical theory and hermeneutic of traditions (Through two eminent German philosophers, Gadamer and Habermas) goes beyond the limits of a simple debate on the methodological basis of the social sciences.

It deals with a basic philosophical issue, that of the historical conditions to which all human understanding is subjected under the regime of finitude.

This issue seems to be stated in the terms of an alternative: the hermeneutical reason for the historical aspect of the consciousness of tradition, or the critical reason for the revolutionary aspect of the emancipatory consciousness which would render justice To criticism of ideologies.
