Abstract EN

Space is one of the key elements of fiction.

Paradoxically, it has not received its due consideration in modern Arabic criticism, at least not as much as the other components (time, character).

Place and space often determine the mobility of characters.

My paper is a contribution to investigate the techniques used to expose space, how it interacts with the other elements, as well as the structural functions it performs in a novel.

Space can even be an element with which novels are classified (classical, modern…).

Aesthetically speaking, there is a difference between a novel where space is presented in a descriptive form independently of events, and another novel where space is shown fragmented, difficult to grasp its final image unless we finish reading the text, thus space becomes bound to event, formed progressively as they unfold.
