this study aims to reveal the social representations of autism among mothers of children infected with the disorder, the perceived causes, and the help seeking for their children’s disorders By analyzing the life stories of ten mothers with an appropriately adapted semi-structured inter- view based on the framework of the Explanatory Model Interview Catalogue,, it became clear that the turmoil going great suffering to have so as to stigma and various perceived embarrassment and feelings of low self-esteem .

Cultural perceived causes elaborated by the mothers to explain their children’s disorders were associated with traditional and popular help-seeking.

They coexisted with biomedical and psychiatric perceived causes that were congruent with professional models and compatible with concurrent institutional help-seeking.
