Abstract EN

This study aimed at exploring the impact of cognitive behavioral group counseling program in improving social support and competence in caregiving among a sample (n=36) of women caregivers of patients' family members with chronic illness.

The participants were distributed randomly into two groups, experimental group (n = 18), and a control group (n = 18).

The results of the pretest to posttest differences for the experimental and control groups on the study scales used revealed that the treatment group compared to control group, was significantly (α = 0.05) more likely to have higher levels of social support and caregiving competence.

Moreover, results of paired sample t-test, of posttest to four weeks follow-up differences for the experimental group on the study scales, indicated that although the grades in the study’s two scales remain almost constant, and the treatment group improved in social support, and regressed in caregiving competence, the differences in the two scales, were not significant
