Abstract EN

The problem of this research paper stands in the concept of the city, urban phenomenon and urbanization in Algeria.

Understanding the meaning of the city and the urban in Algerian society.

Accordingly, we examined the most important theoretical approaches in sociology and urban anthropology.

We also based our analysis on the empirical studies that dealt with this subject, especially the local studies of Algerian society.

The results of this study showed that the classification of cities in Algeria depends primarily on the statistical numerical standard, which distinguishes between the urban and the city as a community.

The urban population includes the most 5000 inhabitants.

The city has more than 20,000 inhabitants, which is divided into small, medium, large and the capital city.

On the social and cultural side, our cities are experiencing a real crisis, which needs to be redefined.

The border between the city and the countryside in Algerian society has become unclear.
