The purpose of this paper is to offer an opportunity of revealing, reading and elaborating the “Declaration on Geographical Education for Sustainable Development” by The International Geographical Union Commission on Geographical Education (IGUCGE).
The International Geographical Union (IGU) considers the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) as an opportunity to confirm its commitment to geographic education for sustainable development.
Material and Methods: This paper confines itself to the description and discussion of the contents of the Lucerne Declaration as posted on the site http://igu-cge.tamu.edu/ of the (IGU).
The author tries to browse whole of parts of the declaration, understand it, list the contents, at the same time explain, and elaborate them.
Some schemas are used to support the discussion.
Results and conclusion: Stemming from the discussion of the declaration the paper came out with some specific suggestions and recommendations that thought may have positive impact on the way Geography is taught and the way it handles issues related to sustainable development within the Arabian countries
