Abstract EN

This present research attempts to spotlight the historical evolution of the rural house in an Egyptian village, exploring as well the characteristics and factors of change in its components and functions; focusing on the reflection of this change on the daily life activities of the rural family.

This research is part of a master dissertation in sociology, specialty of anthropology and folklore, entitled with “Traditional Rural House and Everyday Life Activities of Rural Family - An Anthropological Study”.

This research consists of four main axes discussing the historical evolution of a rural house as follows: First: The rural house in the Pharaonic Egypt.

Second: The rural house in the Islamic era.

Third: The rural house in modern Egypt.

Fourth: The contemporary rural house in the research examined village.

Research results indicate a change has occurred across the different historical ages to the traditional rural house which most important are: the emergence of modern patterns of house similar to those in cities regarding the building and construction materials, the internal and external aspects of the house, vertical and horizontal extensions, colors of paintings, internal and external aesthetics of the house reflected in wall paintings and drawings that suit the rural religious nature and others.

However, despite the mentioned changes have occurred to the rural house, results indicate that the rural house is still built in adobe-bricks in a vertical way, and consisting of one or two floors as a maximum limit, and one entry door, in addition to the other common known traits of a rural house.
