Tolerance in the dictionary may mean as one's capacity to endure pain or hardship and looking at it at another angle, it could mean as a show of sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one's own.

Religious tolerance has emerged in human history as a reaction against fanaticism while intolerance which is exhibited by other persons represents the brutal tendency in some.

This tendency is manifested in the belief that others who differ in race, religion, culture or gender pose a danger or deviation from origin.

The 21st century witnesses painful events reminiscent of the tragedies during the medieval times.

On the other hand, there is a qualitative leap in the field of technology influencing the minds of people headed towards a social revolution and causing social changes.

This paper attempts to look at tolerance from a social perspective in a codified way, analysing sociological theories and social reactions toward tolerance.
