Abstract EN

The study aimed to investigate the prevalence of mental disorders among patients who visit governmental hospitals in all states of Sudan during (2010 - 2016), according to gender, home and age variables.

To achieve the objectives of the study, researchers adopted a case study methodology.

The researchers used the cluster sampling method to select (9700) patients from hospitals and psychiatric units by submitting a form containing the required information.

The researchers used the percentage to answer the questions of the study.

The study found that 73.9% of patients with mental disorders in hospitals in Sudan are: schizophrenic (26.5%), bipolar (25.8%), and depressive disorders (21.6%), respectively.

The study also showed that the mental disorder that is more prevalent among males is schizophrenic spectrum (29.6%), while the most prevalent disorder among females is bipolar disorder (29.7%).

In addition, rural patients are more prone to bipolar disorder (28.3%), while urban patients (5.3%) are more likely to suffer addictive substance disorder, and that the disorder related to an addictive substance spread among members of the productive age groups between (20-50) years.

The study concluded with a set of recommendations, references and appendices.
