Abstract EN

The loss of a loved person motivate the bereaved to practice a set of funeral rites which differ from a region to another, in Algerien society, although there are some semblances in general.

These rituals play an important role in the psychological process of grief by helping the bereaved to overcome the crisis of loss.

Through utilization of both observation and interview in the study of funeral rites in the region de Tamanrasset, we try to show that rites of mourning are behaviors produced by both individual and society as a culture, to face symptoms and manifestations which accompany the experience of death.

We can see in the rituals of consolation for instance, as a simple and a spontaneous traditional therapy contains psychological and social support which may allow to the bereaved an emotional discharge needed in such conditions.
