Abstract EN

This research aims, primarily, to study and explain the vocabulary and the elements of the encoding process in the modern versions of the GIS programs, especially ARC GIS 9,2, program so as to identify and clarify the capabilities and competencies and the importance of these programs in the coding map and stand on what types and the quality of Cartographic symbols used in drawing maps, as well as detecting forms of encoding that can carry out these programs and their implementation.

Secondly, this research attempts to compare these capabilities markup for GIS programs with the objectives and requirements of the ambitious process of encoding information in the maps, in order to identify the features of these programs and detect flaws in them and that need to work on them and avoid them and add them later in the newer versions.

In this way we can get sophisticated and efficient programs to geographic information systems, able to meet all the objectives and requirements of cartography, which is the origin and basis and the goal of these programs.
