The kingdom of the Hijaz is located within the dry area, which made it vulnerable to sudden climatic fluctuation and serious natural throughout the ages.

The floods of Mecca, Medina and Taïf during the 17th century were amongst the most important climatic events recorded by the historical sources during the 17th century.

To clarify and identify the flood phenomena and their climatic variables and to detect their negative, as well as, positive effects in various aspect of life, economic, urban, cultural, religious and behavioural, our research does not exclude the efforts done in favour of the environment to prevent the consequences of the floods and the reconstruction of the disastrous areas.
