Abstract EN

Environmental tourism, or ecotourism, depends enormously on visiting natural areas.

This type of tourism helps educating visitors and investors to deal with fragile natural areas and to cope with local cultures that live near or in these areas.

It increases opportunities for growth of environmental education in developing countries; who are suffering from high levels of pollution and a failure to enforce strict laws that preserve the environment and natural resources.

It also contributes to the preservation of the archaeological areas from degradation; resulting from the misbehavior of some tourists, the fact which deprives the world from an important cultural heritage.

This paper aims at identifying the reality of eco-tourism in Algeria and ways of enhancing it.

The study reached the following results : - Ecotourism plays an important role in preserving natural resources and promoting activities that protect nature, - Environmental tourism in Algeria suffers from some shortcomings which limit its flourishment in the area, - In order to promote this type of tourism, local, regional and international laws dealing with the environment must be respected.
