Abstract EN

It is well known that Abu Osman Amr ibn Bahr bin Mahbub al-Jahiz is a unique literary and intellectual scholar in the history of classical Arabic literature and culture.

Although, scholars’ interest in researching al-Jahiz’s works and publications has been growing in recent years, some areas have been left in al-Jahiz’s authorship which require more investigations.

This paper claims that the phenomenon of digression was not used to pay the boredom of the reader, but it is used as a tool to hide something, which was not allowed to say it at that time.

Kitab Al-hayawan is selected to achieve this target.

It has been remarked that Kitab Al-hayawan is an encyclopedia of seven volume of anecdotes, poetic descriptions and proverbs.

So, it is hard to say that this study will cover the whole book, but some samples may show the real act of new reading.
