Abstract EN

The research problem lies in how to determine the type and nature of the factors that determine the demand for money in the Sudan, and through it to determine the appropriate monetary policy.

In addition, to identify the ideal way for estimating the rates of change in the demand for money arising from the changes in those factors affecting it.

The study aims to identify and estimate an econometric model to analyze the effect of some economic variables on the behavior of the demand for money by using the simultaneous equations system; besides providing some proposals and recommendations that may help monetary authorities in the utilization of monetary policy tools to serve the requirements of economic growth .

The study adopted the historical method by reviewing the performance of monetary policy in the Sudan during the period (1980-2014); as well as the analytical statistical method and the econometric approach in the formation of the econometric model.

The most important results of the study indicated the existence of a positive significant statistical relationship between the demand for money and each of the Gross Domestic Product and the inflation rate; as well as the existence of an inverse significant statistical relationship between the demand for money and each of the exchange rate and the profit margin.

The most important recommendations of the study call for working to increase the Gross Domestic Product; besides preventing the deterioration in the Sudanese currency.
